Citizen Science Institute (CSI)
Citizen Science Institute (CSI)
CSI (Community, Science and Investigation) at Thurgood Marshall Middle School is a choice program that develops student leadership through hands-on science, field-based investigations, and civic engagement.
Students work alongside scientists, researchers, and community partners to apply classroom learning to real-world environmental and scientific projects. Through service-learning and action-based civic projects, students gain a deeper understanding of their communities and the role they can play in creating positive change.
A key component of CSI is the strong partnership between students, staff, families, and community members. Parent volunteers help support program activities, field experiences, and fundraising efforts that make these unique learning opportunities possible.
CSI empowers students to become curious learners, engaged citizens, and future leaders through meaningful, authentic learning experiences.
