Olympia Reads

Olympia Reads!!

Olympia Reads!! is a community reading initiative designed to encourage our students to be lifelong readers and learners. The mission of Olympia Reads!! is to excite readers of all ages by connecting them with published authors and illustrators. The Olympia Reads!! committee is made up of teacher-librarians from all levels in OSD. Our valued partners are Timberland Regional Library, Olympia Education Foundation, and Browsers Books, as well as Lacey Loves to Read.

Our 2026 featured author is Renée Watson, a New York Times bestselling author, a recipient of the Coretta Scott King Award, and a Newbery Honor winner. Her work often explores identity, family, and community, and her books are often set in her hometown of Portland, Oregon. Some of her most celebrated books include "Piecing Me Together," "Love Is a Revolution," and "Ways to Make Sunshine." As a writer, Renee Watson uses her platform to inspire and empower young people to find their voices and tell their own stories.

Bookmark Contest

As part of this year’s celebration, students are invited to showcase their creativity in a Bookmark Design Contest! The contest encourages students to design a bookmark that reflects their love of literature and reading. Entry forms are available from Teacher-Librarians and include the contest categories, rules and important details. Completed entries are due back to your Teacher-Librarian by November 3, 2025.
