Long Range Facilities Master Planning Advisory Committee

The Olympia School District is thankful for those who submitted applications to join the Long Range Facilities Master Planning Advisory Committee and grateful for the willingness and generosity of their time to contribute ideas about our facilities. The district is fortunate to have representation from across the district as well as the community in the applicant pool and a healthy number of individuals ready to engage in the process.

 

Through outreach and engagement, the district aims to honor school, community and stakeholder input as the Long Range Facilities Planning Advisory Committee works to explore, evaluate, and establish facility priorities that reflect the student's and community's unique character and vision within district boundaries and the surrounding area. Our new 10-year (minimum) master plan will follow OSD Policy 6900 - Facilities Planning.

 

The committee will include over 40 participants, including school representatives and community members, who committed to attending a series of meetings. The application process was open to all Olympia School District students, staff, families, and community partners.  All interested individuals were encouraged to apply. The application process for participating on the committee closed on September 27, 2024.

Committee meetings have now concluded, and the district's consultant team, Integrus, is currently compiling the date and input gathered during these sessions to develop a draft Long Range Facilities Master Plan for the district in collaboration with the leadership team. This plan will outline facility priorities and strategies for the years 2025-2035.

Please Note: There are a few notable differences between OSD Policy 6900 and the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) version. Specifically, the language under the Facility Master Plan section, bullet points B and D.

2025-2035 Long Range Facilities Master Plan

The Capital Planning and Construction office steered a Planning Advisory Committee over the course of the 2024-25 school year. Committee members were challenged with developing a Long-Term Facilities Master Plan for the district in conjunction with a consultant team, staff and comunity members. This was a comprehensive effort that looked at current school capacity, future enrollment projections, existing facility conditions, the District's educational vision and prioritization of facility needs.

  • Meeting 2 - Understanding the Clean Buildings Act, School Construction Assistance Program, First Meeting Follow Up
  • Meeting 3 - State of Our Schools: BCA Report, Project Costs, Tax Rates and Bonds
  • Meeting 4 - District Initiatives: Danielson Framework, 6 Student Outcomes, Monitoring Report Summary and Early Learning
  • Meeting 5 - Elementary Initiatives (i.e. Student Support, Playgrounds/Outdoor Spaces and Safety & Security)
  • Meeting 6 - Follow-up on Safety & Security, Secondary Initiatives (i.e. Activities, Athletics, Farm and CTE)
  • Tours - Committee members toured Olympia Regional Learning Academy, LP Brown Elementary, Thurgood Marshall Middle School and Hansen Elementary
